๐Getting to the Stadium: NRG Stadium
NRG Stadium is just south of downtown Houston, about 25 minutes from George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) or 20 minutes from Hobby Airport (HOU). The METRORail Red Line runs from downtown to the NRG Park/Fannin South station โ walkable to the stadium. Driving works but parking costs $40-60. Match-day Park & Ride shuttles run from multiple locations around the city.
๐ Where to Stay
Downtown Houston puts you on the METRORail line to the stadium. The Museum District and Montrose are the most walkable, interesting areas โ art galleries, coffee shops, diverse restaurants. Midtown has the bar scene. The Heights is trendy with boutique hotels. The Medical Center area is closest to NRG Stadium but feels institutional. For budget hotels, look at Galleria/Uptown area โ not walkable but plenty of chains.
๐ดFood & Drink
Houston is the most diverse food city in America. Vietnamese pho in Midtown (Pho Binh is legendary). BBQ at Truth BBQ or Killen's. Tex-Mex at the Original Ninfa's on Navigation โ they invented fajitas. Kolaches (Czech-Texan pastries) at Shipley Do-Nuts for breakfast. Near the stadium, the food options inside NRG are decent but expensive. Eat in Montrose or EaDo before heading over.
โWeather
Houston in summer is oppressively hot and humid. Expect 33-37ยฐC (91-99ยฐF) with 80%+ humidity. Thunderstorms pop up almost daily in the afternoon. NRG Stadium has a roof and AC, so you'll be comfortable inside. Outside, the heat index can feel like 43ยฐC (110ยฐF). Drink water constantly.
